줄거리

1970년대, 뭐든 열심히 하는 페이니는 방직 공장을 다니면서도 대학에 가서 지식으로 운명을 바꾸는 게 소원이다. 마침 중학교 동창인 팡무양이 사람을 구하다 다치면서 영웅이 되고, 페이니는 선행을 인정받아 대학에 추천되기 위해 그를 돌보겠다고 나선다. 그러나 그녀의 바람은 번번이 무너지고, 현실의 압박이 계속해서 찾아오는데... 오빠의 신혼집 문제를 해결해 주기 위해, 페이니는 팡무양에게 가짜 결혼을 통해 집을 분배받자고 제안하고, 우여곡절 끝에 드디어 집을 얻은 두 사람은 2층 침대에서 따로 자는 신혼부부가 된다. 두 사람은 함께 어려움에 맞서며 서로의 꿈을 응원하고, 부딪치기도 하면서 평범하고 따뜻한 일상 속에서 서로에게 마음을 열어 끝내 로맨스가 싹튼다. 그렇게 페이니는 원하던 대학에 가게 되고, 팡무양도 화가의 꿈을 이루며, 행복한 삶과 아름다운 미래를 향해 나아간다.
