Στο κοντινό μέλλον, μια ομάδα επίλεκτων πεζοναυτών πηγαίνουν για μια άσκηση ρουτίνας σε ένα απομονωμένο νησί που κανένας δεν ξέρει την ακριβή θέση του και χωρίς μέσο επικοινωνίας. Μαζί τους είναι και η μυστηριώδης προγραμματίστρια Mills που ο εγκέφαλός της είναι σε επαφή με έναν υπολογιστή. Όταν τα μέλη της ομάδας αποβιβάζονται στο νησί αμέσως καταλαβαίνουν πως δεν πρόκειται για αποστολή ρουτίνας αλλά πως είναι στόχοι εξελιγμένων στρατιωτικών ρομπότ και πως η Mills εμπλέκεται, εν αγνοία της ή όχι στη συνωμοσία. Αποκομμένοι και αντιμετωπίζοντας βέβαιο θάνατο από τα εξελιγμένα και αυτόνομα ρομπότ, πρέπει να πολεμήσουν για την επιβίωσή τους και συγχρόνως να μάθουν ποια και τι ακριβώς είναι η Mills και ποιο στρατόπεδο υποστηρίζει.
