Overview

I en ikke nærmere bestemt fremtid har velhavende mennesker mulighed for at holde ferie i en kolossal forlystelsespark med western-tema. Parken er fyldt med menneskelignende robotter, der er designet til at give gæsterne en eventyrlig oplevelse. Det er geniet Dr. Robert Ford (spillet med tilpas arrogance af Anthony Hopkins), som har grundlagt parken og udviklet de yderst realistiske robotter. Hans vision er at skabe et sted, hvor mennesker har mulighed for at udleve deres vildeste fantasier og lege cowboyhelt eller -skurk i så lang tid, pengene rækker. Parken drives af den benhårde Theresa Cullen (Sidse Babett Knudsen), som er skeptisk over for parkens koncept. Hun har en flirt med den brillante programmør Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright), der mistænker robotterne for at være smartere, end man skulle tro.
