Will Freeman mène une parfaite vie de célibataire sans emploi. C'était sans compter sur Fiona, sa nouvelle voisine, qui emménage accompagnée de son fils de onze ans : Marcus. Si dans un premier temps, la relation de Will et Marcus est conflictuel, l'adulte découvre que sa côté auprès des femmes remonte inexorablement lorsqu'il est accompagné du jeune garçon.
